Life without BID (4) – We’ll all be happier with no BID dividing us and no bailiff threats!
There is a sad side to BID, it’s dividing businesses, suppose it’s only naturally if there are 2 voting opinions, but do we need such a controversial topic dividing the towns businesses when we’re meant to be coming together? But saying this, vote no BID feeling in town is so strong that ironically it’s brought many businesses together to fight the BID ballot, nice to feel the camaraderie that’s developed.
Let’s remember that those who want a BID are using a legal framework to help impose their will on fellow businesses, shouldn’t each business owner be able to decide for themselves what to invest their own money in? For example taking away money for BID could be limiting a businesses’ direct advertising budget if they felt that was a better investment, is that fair?
Then we have magistrates court and bailiffs descending on fellow businesses, nasty thugs dropping by at people’s homes demanding payment for something they either can’t afford to pay, or just don’t want to pay because they see no value in BID. Kick out BID and we get rid of this angst as well within our business community.
We can see that BID has had a negative psychological effect on too many of the towns businesses, wouldn’t it be nicer if we weren’t divided by BID and instead were positively pulling together in the same direction?
The article here on the Against BID website shows us division caused by having a BID is unfortunately quite normal, but something Minehead can be without if BID is kicked out!
